Our History

We have been serving the Shawnee community since 1967. At this time, Shawnee Medical Center was formed by a merger between two physician groups, ACH Hospital and Broadway Hospital. During this time, Jack Coffey was operating the pharmacy at the Broadway Hospital with a very scaled down version of our operation today. Jack ran a very diminutive pharmacy in the corner (lobby) of the hospital, and a group of physicians had their offices in the same area. Mr. Coffey also had an outpatient pharmacy that also served the small hospital. Our current operation evolved from these meager beginnings when Shawnee Medical Center Hospital and Shawnee Medical Center Pharmacy opened for business in 1967.

Belle Harris R.Ph. began working in September of 1969. Belle and her husband Jack are now residents of Pryor, Oklahoma. They are both retired and have moved to be close to their daughter. Jeani Haggard began keeping the books in 1969.Jeani is still currently employed here at The Clinic Pharmacy. Billie Howard R.Ph joined the team in 1970. Don Loula R.Ph in 1971. Elizabeth Simpson, began work in September of 1977 and is currently our Compliance Officer. In 1978, Billie Howard left to operate the Mission Hill Pharmacy. Also in 1978, Shawnee Medical Center Clinic began serving the community and we opened our second store, The Clinic Pharmacy, right inside their front door.

Karen Lawson came on board in 1979. Tim Barrick did his summer internship in 1982 and joined the staff as a pharmacist in May of 1985. In 1986, Billie Howard purchased Campus Drug, and in 1988, Karen Lawson accepted a directorship at Okmulgee Hospital. Shortly thereafter, Don Loula accepted a directorship at Frederick, but returned to our staff in 1990. Tim Barrick became a partner in 1992 and Shawnee Medical Center became Shawnee Regional Hospital and Shawnee Regional Pharmacy. In 1994, Billie Howard rejoined us and began work at the Clinic Pharmacy. Karen Lawson returned in 1995.

In 1998, we took a new direction into the world of compounding. Don Loula and Tim Barrick attended the Professional Compounding Center of America’s training and became certified compounding specialists. Gordon Richards joined the staffing in 2000 and Shawnee Regional Hospital and Mission Hill Hospital became Unity Health Center in October of 2002. Lauren Palmer, our first PharmD, began working with us in July of 2003.In June of 2006 we merged the retail side of our hospital pharmacy (Shawnee Regional Pharmacy) with The Clinic Pharmacy. We continued serving the needs of the community by offering our services as strickly a hospital pharamcy at the Unity Health Center location.

We opened our third store, McLoud Clinic Pharmacy, in September of 2004. Lauren Palmer is currently serving as manager to meet the needs of the McLoud area.

In October 2008 Unity Health center took over the day to day operations and staffing of their pharmacy services. Thus ending our hospital pharmacy affiliation by closing the door on Shawnee Regional Pharmacy. Former employees Don Loula and Karen Lawson are currently still working in the hospital pharmacy.

We have a rich pharmacy history and tradition in the Shawnee area and look forward to serving you for many years to come!
